If you only have 1 creature with a buff and it gets killed, does The Boss ability work?
Answered under Unleashed Rules FAQ and Clarifications
Insufficient card text was provided for The Boss. Under the most defensible interpretation — that The Boss triggers when a unit that had a Buff leaves play — the ability will still trigger if the sole Buffed unit is killed, because the check is satisfied by the unit having had a Buff immediately before leaving play. However, if The Boss specifically requires a Buff to still be present after the unit leaves play (or requires spending a Buff on a different unit), then it would not trigger or would fail to resolve as written.
Because the Core Rules provided do not include The Boss’s exact wording, this is an interpretation. The best-supported ruling is: Yes — if The Boss's trigger condition is 'when a unit with a Buff dies' (or similar), it will trigger when your only Buffed unit is killed, as long as that unit had a Buff immediately before leaving play. If The Boss instead requires a Buff to remain on the battlefield or to be spent after the unit leaves play, then it would not find a Buff and would not be able to carry out that portion of its effect.

- 01Identify The Boss’s exact trigger text (missing).
- 02If the trigger is 'when a unit with a Buff dies' then determine whether the killed unit had a Buff immediately before leaving play.
- 03Note that when the unit leaves play the game rule removes Buffs from that unit as part of leaving play .
