In a Showdown, if the attacker casts an Action and both players pass priority, does the Showdown Action Step end immediately, or does focus return to the attacker after the Action resolves?
Answered under Unleashed Rules FAQ and Clarifications
Playing an Action during a Showdown does not immediately end the Showdown Action Step. The played Action starts a chain . After that chain resolves, Focus continues to pass in turn order (the player who had Focus does not automatically regain it just because their Action finished) . The Showdown only ends if all players then pass once in sequence with no spell plays or ability activations between those passes .
When the attacker (the player who had Focus at the Showdown start) casts an Action, that Action becomes a Chain item when played . Resolving that Action does not itself satisfy the "all players have passed once in sequence" condition that ends a Showdown . After the Action resolves, Focus will move according to the Showdown rules — it goes to the next player in Turn Order if the current holder is done acting . The Showdown will only end if, after the Action resolves, both players then pass in sequence without playing a spell or activating an ability; only then does the Showdown close .

- 01At Showdown start, the player who applied Contested gains Focus .
- 02If that player plays an Action, it "will start a Chain as normal" when played .
- 03While that Chain is resolving, the Showdown does not end because the condition of "all players have passed once in sequence" has not been met; playing the Action interrupts any pass sequence .
